Academic Credentials

Eric W. Stein, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Management Science and Information Systems at the Penn State Great Valley School of Graduate and Professional Studies. His areas of research and expertise are organizational memory and learning, human expertise, decision support, business design, creativity and improvisation, business ethics, and high tech venture development. He served as the director of the New Ventures and Entrepreneurial Studies MBA concentration for several years. Dr. Stein has a Ph.D. in Managerial Science from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in Physics from Amherst College.

Publishing

Dr. Stein has published in the Journal of Management Information Systems, The International Journal of Expert Systems, Organization Science, The International Journal of Information Management, Information Systems Research, The Journal of Business Ethics, and Expert Systems with Applications among others and serves as a reviewer for several management and M I S journals and conferences. Articles of general interest on business, energy and technology have appeared in the Delaware County Times (PA).  He is also featured in interviews appearing Rolling Stone Magazine, Bloomberg Press, and Fast Company among others on the business aspects of indoor and vertical farming. He is the founder of the Center of Excellence for Indoor Agriculture (https://indooragcenter.org/)

Community Service

Dr. Stein has been active in local government as a Councilman (Media, PA) and Committeeman, and has served on a number of boards including the Media Business Authority, Media Library, the Borough Information Technology Committee, the Recreation Board, and the Community Design committee.

Other Intelligences

Eric regularly performs with jazz groups in the Philadelphia area on sax and piano. He is a certified ski instructor and has skied all over North American and Europe.
